Wood Basket Overview

Boards The Springer Creek wood basket is made up of the typical “Kootenay Mix” which is a wet belt combination of S-P-F (30%), Fir/Larch (30%), Hemlock (27%), Western Red Cedar (10%) and White Pine (3%). The logs are of high quality and have the potential to yield high value items over and above the conventional CLS dimension grades.

One of the strengths of the mill is the ability to produce wides, clears, high percentages of J-grade and Select Structural, Lamstock and high quality 1” boards.

Also an asset is the ability to change species quickly and on short notice in order to respond to market demands.

Products

Springer Creek Forest Products produces a full range of dimension lumber from 2x3 to 2x12 in lengths from 6’ to 20’. Also available are odd widths (eg. 2x5 and 2x7 in lamstock) and one foot multiples on request. Please view our product listing below.

Very high quality 1” boards are produced in Spruce and Lodgepole Pine in grades including C & Btr clears, #2 Common, #3 Common, #4 Common and #5 Common.

As well as dimension grades, J-grade and Select Structural is produced in S-P-F and Hemlock.

Cedar is produced from 2x3 to 2x12 and is of exceptional second growth quality which yields a high percentage of Select Tight Knot type of material.

The Douglas Fir and Larch are well suited to products such as Lamstock due to the straight grained nature of the wood.

The mill is a medium size operation producing about 100 million board feet per year for sales in primarily the U.S., Canada and Japan.
